First and foremost, Hello! My name is Brie. I am the voice behind Hook & Harrow and am so glad you are here!
As a woman in her late 20s, I have constantly sought new hobbies and skills to learn. First, I taught myself how to crochet. Next, I sought out the help of my fiancé's grandmother to teach me how to garden. After two years of successful gardening, I returned to her to learn the art and science of canning. (This woman is a fount of knowledge!)
The one common thread I began to recognize throughout my new hobbies and skills was a desire for simplistic and intentional living. Thus began my search for "simple living" and "intentional living" on Pinterest, my favorite place to find inspiration. Every post seemed to mirror the dream life I was envisioning. One of the first posts I came across was this Bible verse:
This resonated so deeply with me. I found myself thinking, "This is the life I was meant to live. One of simplicity and where I worked with my hands, creating." After falling down the rabbit hole of everything simple and intentional living, I learned of a term I hadn't heard before:
Grandmillennial or Grandmacore - both embrace an aesthetic of cozy comfort and nostalgia. Grandmillennial is typically someone that embraces the traditional decor style that reminds us of our grandparents' homes. Whereas Grandmacore is the aesthetic for old souls.
My definition of a grandmillennial is a millennial (20s to 30s) who is an old soul, who desires to live a life that is simplistic and cozy, who fits within this aesthetic:
This is when I decided I was going to combine my love of crocheting with my desire to homestead and embrace being a grandmillennial... Hook & Harrow was created! - Hook, referring to a crochet hook; and Harrow, referring to the tool used to break up the soil when farming or gardening. I thought it was quite creative.
And now you're here, reading this blog about my tiny corner of the universe where I embrace all of the things in life that I enjoy. I hope you choose to stay and maybe even share your experiences.
